Which core value did Bryan choose?

Core values

Our core values show what we believe in as a company and as employees: passion, responsibility, courage, and teamwork.

Bryan is someone who brings energy and enthusiasm to everything he does.

“No day is ever the same, and that’s what I love most about my work. Solving problems, helping colleagues, and seeing how my efforts make a difference give me real satisfaction. IT is not just about systems — it’s about people too, and that’s what makes it meaningful.”

That’s why Bryan feels most connected to the core value of passion.

Q&A

Bryan is an IT Helpdesk Employee at Holland Colours and has been part of the company since 2016, first as an intern and now as a full-time team member. “What I love most about my work is that no day is ever the same. Solving problems, helping colleagues, and seeing the positive impact of my work gives me real energy. IT isn’t just about technology, it’s about people, and that’s what makes it so rewarding.”

Who are you, and what is your role at HCA?

Hello! My name is Bryan Kolk and I work at Holland Colours as an IT Helpdesk Employee. In this role, I actually do a bit of everything: I provide global support to colleagues, manage systems and applications, take care of servers maintenance, and also work on strategic IT matters. What I really enjoy about my job is that no day is ever the same. My day starts with checking emails and reports, but what happens after that is always a surprise. What I love most is helping my colleagues, especially seeing how happy they are when their problem is solved.

How did you join HCA, and how long have you been here?

In 2016, I started with an internship at Holland Colours. After that, I stayed involved through holiday work and a part-time job alongside my studies. During a study project, I came into contact with HCA again, and since 2022 I have been employed full-time. In total, I’ve already built up about five years of experience within Holland Colours.

What’s something people often don’t realize about your role?

Many people think IT is purely technical, but communication is just as important. You have to be socially skilled, be a good listener, and keep communicating clearly, even when under pressure. That combination of the “hard” and “soft” side of IT (so both technology and people) is what makes my work extra enjoyable. Every day is different. My daily schedule depends on the questions and issues raised by colleagues, and that’s exactly what makes the job so dynamic.

What makes working at HCA so enjoyable?

The Holland Colours culture. Holland Colours is and feels like a family business. The lines are short, the atmosphere is informal, and you can walk into anyone’s office. On the local team where I work, it’s always fun, and there’s a lot of humor. I also really enjoy seeing a colleague get back on track thanks to my help. Or when I solve a problem that had a big impact, then I know: this is what makes my work meaningful. At HCA, I was given opportunities to grow and develop myself early on. That, combined with the space for social interaction and the trust you’re given, truly makes this work unique for me.

A moment you felt really proud of yourself and the company?

There are several moments I’ve been proud, but especially when we jump into action as a team during emergencies. For example, on the weekend. That’s when you really see that we can rely on each other and that everyone does their best. That kind of teamwork gives a tremendous sense of pride.

What kind of projects energize you the most?

I get a lot of energy from small changes that have a big impact. Sometimes one adjustment in a system is enough to make the work of fellow colleagues, such as IT or HR, a lot easier. That visible impact makes the work valuable and energizing.

What would you say to new colleagues on their first day?

Walk around, introduce yourself, and talk to people. Everyone is open for a chat, and that really helps you get to know the company and your colleagues quickly.

What’s the atmosphere like in your department?

It’s never boring here. We’re always joking around, it’s genuinely fun. We’re also in the office together almost every day, so we know each other well. That great atmosphere is what makes me enjoy going to the office every day.

Which quote best fits you and your work?

“Your peace of mind begins with our personal service.” I believe this quote not only applies to our customers but is also very important internally. I think it’s important to help colleagues move forward and to take away worries where I can. By doing my part, I get a lot of satisfaction from my work.

How does HCA help you grow, both professionally and personally?

Professionally, I get the chance here to take on more and more responsibilities. I notice that I’ve been given and continue to get great opportunities to develop myself within HCA. On a personal level, open culture helps me to continue developing myself, for example, in the area of communication.

Your ultimate HCA tip for newcomers?

Build your network within HCA. It’s a large company, and you’ll be working with many people across the organization. The more colleagues you know, the smoother communication will be, and that makes everything faster and more enjoyable.
