Q&A

Leroy is an Area Sales Manager at Holland Colours and has been part of the company since January 2022. “I believe that taking initiative and embracing new challenges are key to growth. Every opportunity to connect with customers, explore new markets, and build relationships helps us move forward. With curiosity, confidence, and collaboration, we can achieve great things together.”

Who are you, and what is your role at HCA?

Hi! My name is Leroy and I work as an Area Sales Manager at Holland Colours. In this role, I maintain relationships with existing customers and connect with new ones in the coatings industry across Europe. What do I enjoy most about my job? Traveling and building relationships with customers. I get to see a lot of the world, I work with an amazing team, and customer interaction gives me real energy. It’s all about teamwork, and it feels great when we welcome new customers.

How did you join HCA, and how long have you been here?

I was looking for a new challenge when I was approached via LinkedIn. I thought HCA was an interesting company. Providing the world with color, that's cool, isn't it?! From the moment I stepped into Holland Colours, it felt familiar. The family atmosphere, core values and mentality immediately appealed to me. I’ve been working here since January 2022, so about 3.5 years now.

What’s something people often don’t realize about your role?

People often associate sales with travel, but it's so much more than that. It’s a very active and intensive role where you constantly need to perform and stay on the move. It’s also about helping both sides, the customer and the organization. That’s what gives me true satisfaction. Every day brings a new challenge. One day I'm in the office, working on emails, talking to colleagues, and visiting the lab. The next, I’m on the road visiting a client.

What makes working at HCA so enjoyable for you?

The team. Everyone works in their own way, but there’s always support and space for one another. Even though Holland Colours feels like a small, family-oriented company, we’ve grown significantly. We create beautiful products and offer unique service, thanks to the personal connection we maintain with our customers. That customer focus is something I’m really proud of. What makes HCA stand out to me is the personal touch. Holland Colours is still independent, and you can feel that. It’s a family atmosphere, not just for us, but for many of our customers too. That connection really makes a difference. Helping the customer move forward is felt and appreciated.

A moment you felt really proud of yourself and the company?

A personal success story I’m proud of is that I have become a true point of contact for my clients, and I genuinely enjoy building personal relationships while providing solutions. An example is that we were able to inspire enough confidence to take over the pastes from the competitor within a year and they have since become one of Holland Colours' finest coating customers.

What kind of project energizes you the most?

Right now, I’m excited about our "Solids for Coatings" project. It’s a new product portfolio with great potential. I get a lot of energy from bringing it further into the market and helping customers benefit from our new products.

What would you say to new colleagues on their first day?

You’re stepping into a warm, welcoming environment. My advice? Get involved everywhere, ask questions, and stay curious. Take initiative and explore. This is really appreciated in Holland Colours and will help you.

What’s the atmosphere like in your department?

The bond with colleagues is strong, especially when you travel often together. You really get to know each other beyond just work. Trust is crucial when you're frequently on the road, and that trust is there. The connection within our team is strong, and we all value that deeply.

Which quote best fits you and your work?

“Co-designing a colorful future, piece by piece.” For me, it’s all about collaboration. At Holland Colours, we believe that you achieve more by working together. It’s not just about talking but about listening to each other to find the best solution.

How does HCA help you grow, both professionally and personally?

Professionally, I’m given many opportunities to grow in my role. Within my work at HCA, goals are set, conversations are held, and I receive support through various trainings and courses. Personally, I have also developed a lot thanks to the trust I am given and the freedom to grow.

Your ultimate HCA tip for newcomers?

If you’re in sales or honestly, in any role, I think LinkedIn is a great tool. Build your network. It makes everything easier and a lot more fun. Having a strong network is important, both for yourself and for the company.

Leroy advice:

“Stay curious and take initiative. Don’t be afraid to ask questions or step outside your comfort zone, that’s how you learn and grow. Get involved, explore new opportunities, and build connections with colleagues and customers. It will make your work more meaningful and rewarding.”
