Q&A

Lesley works as a Senior Technician and plays an important role in developing future products. With decades of experience, he contributes to innovation, testing, and project execution, helping bring new ideas from concept to reality.

Who are you, and what is your role at HCA?

My name is Lesley Tromp, and I work as a Senior Technician at Holland Colours. I’m 55 years old, and I’ve been working here for almost 25 years.

Over the years, I’ve been involved in various technical and project-related activities, contributing to the development of new products and solutions.

How did your journey at HCA begin?

Like many people, I was looking for a job at the time. I came across a vacancy, applied, and hoped to get the opportunity.

That first step turned into a long-term career, and over time, I’ve grown together with the company.

What makes teamwork important in your department?

For me, communication is the key. When communication is clear and consistent, it makes teamwork much more effective.

It helps everyone stay aligned and ensures that projects move forward smoothly.

What does your department do?

Our department focuses on developing future products—products that are not yet on the market.

You could compare it to a movie trailer: we are working on what’s coming next. We focus on solutions for tomorrow and help shape the future direction of the company.

What does your work involve on a daily basis?

Our work is very project-driven. We manage and support projects to ensure that the products we develop meet customer expectations and specifications.

This includes testing, validating, and refining products until they are ready to be delivered. It’s a process that requires both technical knowledge and attention to detail.

How does your department contribute to sustainability?

We are strongly focused on developing more sustainable products for the future.

In addition, we work on improving existing products by integrating more sustainable elements into current projects. Sustainability plays an important role in both our present and future work.

What does a typical workday look like for you?

A typical day starts with checking emails, responding to messages, and planning the agenda.

After that, I focus on reports, project work, and ongoing development tasks. Each day brings a mix of activities, which keeps the work dynamic and engaging.

What should people know about HCA?

People sometimes think we are a paint company, but we are not. We specialize in colorants, particularly for plastics.

We do work with the paint industry, but our core expertise lies in color solutions for materials. That distinction is important and defines what we do as a company.

What makes your working environment unique?

Our department is located in Ireland, somewhat separate from the main organization.

We have our own building, which creates a quieter environment where we can focus on projects and development work. This allows us to concentrate deeply and work efficiently.

What would you say to someone considering working at HCA?

Working at HCA offers the opportunity to be involved in developing new ideas and future products.

That creative and forward-thinking aspect is what makes the job interesting and rewarding. It’s a place where you can contribute to innovation and grow over time.

Lesley's advice:

“Communicate clearly and stay connected, because strong communication is the key to successful teamwork.”
