Who are you, and what is your role at HCA?
Hi! My name is Veerle Huisman, I’m 21 years old and I work as a creative content marketer at Holland Colours. In this role, I support the marketing team in a wide range of activities, from branding and content creation to organizing photo shoots, interviews, and help with internal communications.
How did you join HCA, and how long have you been here?
I started at HCA as an intern in February 2024. After my internship, I stayed on as a part-time employee during the summer, and eventually, I got the opportunity to grow into a permanent position in the marketing team. A chance I’m super grateful for!
What’s something people often don’t realize about your role?
My role is quite unique, especially in a large and growing company like this. Many people don’t realize how creative and dynamic marketing can be in a B2B environment. There are so many fun and impactful projects to work on.
What makes working at HCA so enjoyable?
The work truly gives me energy. I love the opportunities I get to grow, both in terms of skills and confidence. Plus, I’m part of a super close and diverse team, where people are genuinely interested in each other. We work hard, but there’s always room for fun.
A moment you felt really proud of yourself and the company?
That would be the 45-year anniversary celebration. Seeing how happy and engaged so many long-time employees still are really made me proud to be part of HCA. It showed me how strong the company culture is.
What kind of projects energize you the most?
I get the most energy from projects where creativity and collaboration come together. I especially enjoy coordinating interviews, organizing photo shoots/video days or editing videos. Working closely with colleagues and seeing the end result come to life is rewarding.
What would you say to new colleagues on their first day?
Give it time. At first, everything might feel a bit overwhelming, all the new names and terminology, but you’ll pick it up quickly. Before you know it, you’ll be fluent in “HCA”.
What’s the atmosphere like in your department?
In the marketing team there is always room for a good laugh, and we genuinely care about each other. It’s a welcoming environment with a great balance between working hard and having fun. I feel really appreciated by my colleagues and everybody is always open to helping each other.

This quote really reflects how I work. I believe in teamwork and creative thinking to generate new ideas and achieve great results. Working together means you can push for the best, by sharing feedback, learning from different perspectives, and building on each other’s strengths.
What does a typical day look like for you – and what makes it surprising?
My workdays vary a lot depending on the projects we’re working on. One day I might be in meetings and answering emails, and the next I’m at an event, organizing a photo shoot, gathering props, or editing a video from a recent event. I really like that I can do so many different things, because it keeps me busy and learning.
How does HCA help you grow – both professionally and personally?
HCA has helped me grow in many ways. I’ve developed essential skills like taking responsibility and improving communication. Things I use in both my professional and personal life. Most of all, I’ve been given the space and trust to grow from an intern to a full-time team member, and that means a lot to me.
Your ultimate HCA tip for newcomers?
Get yourself a good pair of walking shoes! Colleagues will often invite you for a lunch walk, and it’s such a great way to refresh and connect. And don’t underestimate the power of a coffee break, you’ll get fresh energy and probably have a fun chat with a colleague!
