Holland Colours featured in PETplanet: Putting practical sustainability at the center of PET innovation
Holland Colours has been featured in a recent PETplanet Insider interview, highlighting the company’s ongoing journey toward a more sustainable and responsible future in the PET industry.
In 2025, PETplanet visited Holland Colours in Apeldoorn as part of their Editour and sat down with Coen Vinke, CEO, and Xandra van Turnhout, Head of Global Marketing Communications, to explore how the company is translating its long-standing commitment to sustainability into concrete actions, ambitious goals, and meaningful support for customers navigating the evolving circular economy.
Holland Colours' active contribution
The conversation reflects a central message: sustainability is more than a checklist. As stated in the interview, Holland Colours aims to reduce its CO₂ emissions by 50% by 2030, a target supported by ongoing initiatives across operations, product development, and value chain collaboration.
We are investing heavily in energy efficiency improvements, renewable energy, and optimizing our processes to reduce our environmental impact.
These initiatives are already visible today. In July 2024, Holland Colours’ Apeldoorn site transitioned to using 100% renewable electricity, further reducing the company’s footprint and reinforcing its long-term sustainability roadmap. The company also continues to improve material use, water use, and waste reduction in its production facilities—making environmental responsibility part of everyday operations.
Beyond its manufacturing footprint, Holland Colours emphasized the importance of sustainable product development. A strong focus on understanding customer recycling challenges helps us develop additives and colorants that enhance the performance of recycled PET, improve rPET quality, and enable more circular processing. PETplanet readers also learned about Holland Colours’ active role within PETCORE Europe and other industry networks, where the company contributes to shared efforts to improve closed-loop systems for PET.

Roadmap for next steps
Holland Colours is evolving its sustainability framework to meet increasing expectations across markets. Transitioning from a traditional CSR approach to a structured ESG framework, the company embeds environmental, social, and governance considerations more deeply into decision-making. In the interview, Holland Colours highlighted ongoing preparations for CSRD compliance, reflecting its commitment to transparency and accountability.
These actions are part of our ongoing efforts to refine our data collection systems and improve transparency.
Looking ahead, Holland Colours will continue to support customers as they transition to sustainability, especially those working with recycled PET, food and beverage packaging, and applications that need both performance and environmental responsibility. Through collaboration, innovation, and a clear long-term vision, Holland Colours is dedicated to advancing a circular, resource-efficient PET industry.
